Born, Oneil Phoenix at Jubilee hospital in Kingston, he is one of six siblings. He lived in Stoney Hill until the age of three, then migrated to St. Mary where he attended Roadside basic school, then on to Hillside primary school and Islington high school. While growing up in Islington, St. Mary Lawgiver began his pursuit of music; one of his first experiences was performing on his uncle’s sound Tidal Wave sound system, which boasted such artists as Capleton and Mad Cobra. His experiences in St. Mary helped to develop his rich culture, his distinct voice and musical background.
After graduating high school his trod took him back to Kingston to solidify his musical talents. He began to embrace different aspects of the music business and pursued his dreams as an entertainer. After reaching Kingston, Lawgiver hooked up with Mixing Lab Studio, where he met up with Bounty Killer who is responsible for the single Bad Smell on the Scare Dem Label as Dyce; the moniker given to Lawgiver by Bounty Killer who also played an essential role in the development of the artiste Lawgiver. While at Mixing Lab, he also met the musical power house duo Sly & Robbie who also played an intricate part in the solid well rounded and balanced artiste he has become. He later went on record his hit single “Vibes” on the tune in rhythm and “Oneness” on the general rhythm on the Taxi Label. Along with four friends, he founded the group New Born Thugs, they performed on many stage shows, such as Stone Love Anniversary, Bounty Killers Saddle to the East and it’s a Party.
The musical Artist Lawgiver has been around the music business for many years, previously known as “Dyce di Lawgiver”. He has had numerous hits both locally and internationally. He has worked with Fat Eyes Production, Enrapture Production, Bounty Killer’s Scare Dem Record Label, & Taxi Records. He has also co-written songs for Merciless, Bounty Killer, Harry Toddler, Elephant Man, and most recently Alozade.
Currently co-founder of Tremor Maddanize Recording Studio. The latest singles, “Dung a Yard”, produced by Pablo(Lion Paw Ent) and “Nuh Touch It” on the Chillum Riddim, produced by Macten Records with young producer Spanky is available on iTunes, Amazon, Spotify, MediaNet, eMusic, Zune, Rhapsody, Nokia, Napster, iHeartRadio, VerveLife, and picking up on the internet radio & radio airwaves worldwide. Lawgiver promises to deliver brilliant thought provoking music to reggae and dancehall fans globally. His lyrical onslaught consists of social commentaries, consciousness, and roots, just to name a few. He is also aiming to educate the people of the world with his enduring lyrics and performs ‘Jah’ works to the fullest as the sky is the limit and as his slang phrase says, “Network picking up clear Lawgiver is here!!!”
